BTS’s Suga surprised ARMYs on February 15 by announcing he would be the first member to embark on a solo world tour. The announcement was quickly followed by the confirmation he would be the next member, after JinJ-HopeJimin, and RM, to release his solo project, D-DAY.

D-DAY isn’t Suga’s first solo release, but it is his first full-length studio album after previously releasing two mixtapes under his creative moniker, Agust D.

In an interview with TIME Magazine in 2020, Suga explained why he created his alter ego, sharing there’s a lot more he can express as Agust D.

The difference is that there is a lot more that I can openly express and that I can show a more raw side to myself [with Agust D]. What’s similar is that both sing of dreams and hope.

When BIGHIT MUSIC announced on April 1 that Suga would be releasing a new album, they also shared it would conclude the Agust D trilogy.

“D-DAY” marks the concluding chapter of a trilogy by SUGA’s another moniker, Agust D, succeeding the previous mixtapes, “Agust D” and “D-2.” The album delves into the personal journey of SUGA as Agust D, offering an intimate portrayal of his life as an artist.

We ask for fans’ love and support for the last chapter of his trilogy.

While ARMYs were excited that Suga would be returning with new solo music, many were inevitably sad to part with his raw and confident alter ego.

Suga has continued to tease the end of Agust D, but in his recent interview with Rolling Stone, he clarified what the end of the trilogy really means for Agust D’s fate.

A lot of musicians will say they’re retiring and then they make another comeback — I definitely don’t want that to happen. It’s the last of the trilogy, not the last of Agust D.

— BTS’s Suga

The thought of parting with Agust D for the foreseeable future may be bittersweet, but for Suga, it’s moving forward from a painful past.

The stories that I have to tell as Agust D are heavier than those of Suga, right? I don’t have much energy left in me to continue to tell those heavier stories, because I poured out my soul in this album…

— BTS’s Suga

Suga doesn’t completely rule out the return of Agust D and leaves his future open to any possibility.

But after a couple of months, maybe I’ll have some more stories to tell as Agust D, or I can put stuff out as Yoongi, or release things as Suga. No one knows what’s possible in the future.

Even before he was asked about the future of Agust D in his Rolling Stone interview, Suga revealed that he had already answered the question in the “thanks to” section of his D-DAY album.

In his parting message while expressing gratitude to ARMYs in his “thanks to” section, Suga shares that Agust D will return when he’s “filled with more emotions and words and the power in [his] right hand wakes up again.”

As I wrap up the trilogy, I can’t give you a clear answer as to when I will return as Agust D. But when I am filled with more emotions and words and the power in my right hand wakes up again, that is when I will return as Agust D. Thank you and I love you ARMY!
