Japanese Woman Investigates “Cheating” Husband, Finds Out Something Completely Unexpected Instead

A Japanese woman received the biggest surprise of her life when she had her husband investigated.
The husband, dubbed “Panda-san” by the press, revealed his story on Twitter a year ago. He detailed through bullet points his actions that caused his wife to believe he was cheating on her. This included being happier than usual for a reason unbeknownst to her, going to places she did not know about, staying in the bathroom for hours at a time with his phone, and even having a safe which only he had access to.
From around July, I was in great spirits I started leaving the house on days off for parts unknown I’d take my smart phone into the bathroom and stay there for hours I made a locked storage space in my room

Panda-san’s wife, suspecting these behaviors to be signs of an affair, hired a private detective to find out the truth. What he discovered took her completely by surprise.
It turned out that Panda-san was not hiding another woman, but his fanboy addiction instead! He was apparently a closeted super fan of Hatsune Miku, a popular 2D “vocaloid” or voice synthetizing software.
His actions, once the fanboy context was in place, made more sense.
From around July, I was in great spirits (probably because Magical Mirai [a Hatsune Miku concert] was coming up) I started leaving the house on days off for parts unknown (I was pumped for Magical Mirai and went to buy merch and practice karaoke) I’d take my smart phone into the bathroom and stay there for hours (I listened to songs in the bath) I made a locked storage space in my room (I wasn’t out as an otaku so I hid my geek shelf) A Hatsune Miku collection | @snowmeeks/Instagram
The detective’s report to Panda-san’s wife confirmed that he was spending his free time as a fanboy and not a lover-boy.

Panda-san explained that he kept this side of his life a secret due to fear. He did not share his nerdy side with his wife due to the possibility that she would ask him to throw away his idol merchandise.
A lot of people don’t know what 2D is about. I was afraid I’d have to toss all my merch if she found out.

He was also very much aware of the backlash that comes with being a Vocaloid fan, saying, “I was worried about what others might think, so I never publicized it.”
Fortunately for the couple, their story ended happily. Panda-san paid for the cost of the private detective (¥870,000 yen or around $5,900 USD) and treated his wife to her own obsession, Tokyo Disneyland. In turn, she did not ask him to stop being a fanboy.
Hatsune Miku is one of the original Vocaloid stars who is famous for singing the song “World is Mine.”
Panda-san is not the only man whose love for the Vocaloid is to the extremes. Another fan even went so far as to marry her in a ceremony that was publicized in multiple subsequent interviews.
